In 2011, Derrick Rose became the youngest player to win the MVP award, but his career was irreparably damaged by serious knee injuries, making that moment the highlight of his career. The former great Bulls guard believes, with brutal realism, that in a few years the basketball world won’t remember him.
“Based on the course of my career, they won’t remember me. There are many players who don’t know who Wilt Chamberlain is—a man who broke so many records, won every kind of award, and received countless honors. And yet, kids today don’t know who he is, nor do they know Bill Russell, who won the most championships. “So who am I to say that people will remember me? They probably won’t,” he said, but he didn’t seem bothered by it.
“When I look back, I feel like I gave it my all. I don’t regret a thing. Every day, every practice, every surgery, every rehab… I faced it all with my whole heart. That’s why I was able to retire from basketball the way I did, feeling at peace with my decision. So no, I have absolutely no regrets,” he emphasized in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
