A major transfer move for Ajax, which announced the signing of Sofiane Amrabat.
The experienced Moroccan midfielder signed a contract with the Amsterdam club through June 30, 2028, and returns to Dutch soccer after a long stint in top European leagues.
Amrabat became a free agent after leaving Fenerbahçe, having previously agreed with the Turkish club to terminate his contract. As a result, Ajax was able to sign him as a free agent, adding to its midfield a player with extensive experience and a track record of high-level performances. The 30-year-old was born in Hoessen, the Netherlands, and began his professional career at Utrecht. He then played for Feyenoord before continuing his career outside the Netherlands with Club Brugge, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina, Manchester United, and Fenerbahçe. Last season, he also played in Spain for Real Betis.
He is a player who can play both as a defender and as a central midfielder, and his experience in various leagues was one of the key factors that led Ajax to sign him. He also has a significant international career with the Moroccan national team, with which he has participated in three World Cups.
Jordi Cruyff expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the deal, noting that Amrabat possesses exactly the qualities Ajax was looking for. “We are very happy to have secured Sofian’s signature. He is physically strong, technically very skilled, and has vast international experience. He also knows the Dutch league very well, so we expect him to adapt quickly. We’ve acquired exactly the type of player we were looking for,” he said.
