UEFA has appointed one of Europe’s top referees to officiate Sunday’s Nations League match between Greece and Germany at Toumba Stadium. The referee in question is elite referee Clément Turpin, who has officiated many matches involving Greek teams.
During the 2019–20 season, he officiated two Stoiximan Super League playoff matches. On June 28, 2020, he officiated the AEK–Olympiacos match (1–2) at OAKA, and a few weeks later, on July 19, he refereed the PAOK – Aris 0–0 at Toumba. This year, he has officiated the AEK – Levski Sofia match for the Champions League playoff rematch.
The highlight of his career was officiating the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid, while the previous year he had officiated the Europa League final between Villarreal and Manchester United. At the last World Cup, he officiated England’s quarterfinal match against Norway.
Tourpen’s assistants will be his compatriots Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Paz, while Eric Vatelier will serve as the fourth official. Jérôme Brissard, also from France, will be in charge of VAR, with Bastien Desépy serving as AVAR.
