Ferran Torres got off to a great start by saving Paris Saint-Germain from a slip-up in their Ligue 1 opener!

On Sunday night (August 23), Rennes came very close to a major upset against the Parisians; however, the former Barcelona striker from Spain scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to seal a 2-2 draw in the opening round of the French league.

The home team stunned the French and European champions by opening the scoring in the 9th minute with an amazing shot by Simianski from outside the box on a counterattack. In fact, in the 38th minute, they doubled their lead with a beautiful finish by Lepol off a terrific assist from Frankovski, with Rennes putting the Parisians on the ropes.

Luis Enrique’s substitutions after halftime provided solutions and completely turned the tide for Paris, which, as time went on, increased its pressure on the opponent’s goal. Their persistence paid off, and Ferran Torres cut the lead with a close-range shot in the 71st minute, before the Spanish striker equalized the match with a header in the 82nd minute.

In the other matches of the day, Monaco secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Le Havre. The only goal of the match was scored by Diér with a beautiful header in the 14th minute, a lead the Monegasques held onto until the final whistle despite pressure from the home team.

Lille also kicked off the season with a win, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory on the road against Angers. Both of the visitors’ goals came in the first half, with Giroud (11′) and Santos (31′) finding the back of the net to secure the three points.
