The Clippers’ owner offered a heartfelt “apology” to the team’s fans for the severe penalties imposed by the league for violating the salary cap.
In his message to fans, Steve Ballmer stated that he takes responsibility for this situation and did not fail to apologize to the other team owners for the disruption.
Here is Steve Ballmer’s message in full:
“To the friends and supporters of the Los Angeles Clippers
: This is a very difficult time for everyone associated with the Clippers, and for that, I offer my sincere apologies. I want to apologize to our fans, our employees, and our fellow NBA team owners for the disruption this matter has caused. As the principal owner, I take responsibility.
We are committed to putting this chapter behind us. We have informed the NBA that we are complying with the sanctions imposed by the league, we have paid the fine, and we are moving forward. Although there are still disagreements regarding the report’s findings, that is not where I want to focus my attention. Team owners must provide support, not distract from the issue.
The challenges ahead of us are significant, but so is our determination. We will continue to build our team and invest in our community. The trust of our fans is our top priority.
With our talented roster, our exceptional staff, and a clear vision, I am confident that we will compete at the highest level and be an organization our fans can be proud of.”
