Iñaki Williams announced his retirement from the Ghana national team.
In a social media post, the 32-year-old Athletic Bilbao forward announced that he is ending his time with the national team, for which he made his debut in 2022 and made a total of 28 appearances, while also competing with the team in this year’s World Cup.
It’s worth noting that Iñaki has roots in Ghana but was born in Spain, which is why he played for Spain’s youth national teams when he was younger. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Nico, chose to play for the Spanish national team.
Iñaki Williams’ post:
“I feel that the time has come to conclude my journey with the Ghana national team.
I’m leaving happy, proud, and with the peace of mind that comes from knowing I gave my all every time I wore this jersey.
Ghana has given me so much more than just soccer. It allowed me to return to my homeland, to feel even closer to my roots, and to experience the immense pride of representing my country and wearing this flag on my chest.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart, all of you who have been part of this journey, as well as for all the love you’ve shown me over the years.
Ghana will always be a part of who I am. I will continue to support the “Black Stars” as one of you, no matter where I am.”
I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end.
