Messi is preparing a new “comeback” in Spanish soccer

The buying team
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Lionel Messi is preparing to take another significant business step in the world of soccer, this time with a focus on Spain and Eldense. His soccer career appears to be nearing its end, following his retirement from the Argentine national team, and soccer’s “GOAT” is already “looking” for the next steps in his life, which include investing the (very many) millions he has “earned” over the years.

According to a report from Spain, the Argentine superstar has reached a preliminary agreement with the owners of Eldense, with the aim of acquiring 100% of the club’s shares, without the involvement of third-party investors. If the deal is finalized, Messi will become the sole owner of the Eldense team, which competes in the Segunda División, Spain’s second division. The process is now in the final stages of legal and financial due diligence, and will also require approval from Spain’s Higher Sports Council.

This move further strengthens Messi’s business presence in Spanish soccer, as he had already acquired UE Cornellà, a Tercera Federación team, earlier this year. There also appears to be a longer-term strategy behind this decision. Messi wishes to invest part of his soccer legacy in clubs and projects directly linked to the sport, while Eldense’s geographical location is by no means irrelevant, as the Argentine plans to settle in Catalonia once he concludes his career at Inter Miami.

Eldense changed ownership in October 2025, when it was acquired by an international investment group led by businessman Juan Carlos Trujillo. Previously, there had also been interest from Ricardo Pini, with a reported offer of up to 12 million euros, but now Messi’s name has firmly taken center stage.

On the field, however, Eldense is going through a rough patch. After four matches, the team has earned just two points, and it has already dismissed Claudio Baragán as head coach and is searching for its next manager. If the deal is ultimately finalized, Messi will no longer be just one of the greatest soccer players of all time, but also a major force in professional Spanish soccer.
