What is the current situation regarding the fullbacks on Olympiacos' defense?
As for the right-back position, the situation has been clarified: The chosen one is 30-year-old Manolis Saliakas, who will be signed immediately (for just over one million euros) from St. Pauli. The option was presented to Medilibar, who watched the former “red-and-white” defender and was impressed, especially for his speed and his ability to quickly join the attack and deliver good crosses. Over the past two years, he has started 28 Bundesliga matches and made nine substitute appearances. Last season, he missed nine matches due to three injuries.
For the left-back position, Olympiacos has made a strong push to sign 23-year-old Oso from Sevilla, submitting an offer of 6.5 million euros, while the Spanish club is asking for 8 million euros, but the two teams are in constant contact to work out a deal to finalize the transfer of the Spanish (of Argentine descent) defender, whom Medilibar knew from the Sevilla Academy.
Oso is a very fast and highly attack-minded fullback. So attack-minded, in fact, that he’s even played several games as a left winger! His stats last season were two goals and three assists in 21 league games (14 as a starter), having begun playing for Sevilla’s first team in December. He’s a tall player (1.83 m), with a market value of 10 million euros. Olympiacos wants to finalize this transfer very quickly as well, as Kovacevic has mentioned.
