Trump Calls the Trade That Sent Dončić to L.A. “Misguided” – What Trade Did He Compare It To? (VIDEO)

The comparison made by the U.S. president

In early February of last year, the Dallas Mavericks stunned the basketball world and sent Luka Dončić to Los Angeles in a trade.

Since then, the Slovenian has been the Lakers’ leader, and his performances have been spectacular, but he has yet to lead the “Lakers” to an NBA championship.

Perhaps this is what U.S. President Donald Trump is focusing on; he weighed in on what’s happening on the “magical planet” and concluded that this particular trade won’t go down in history. At least, not for the right reasons…

He compared this trade to the Red Sox’s decision in December 1919 to trade Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. The MLB star (of the top professional baseball league in the U.S.) was 24 years old at the time. He was one of the biggest stars in American sports. In the “Big Apple,” he broke every personal—and non-personal—record, managing to build a dynasty with the Yankees that culminated in the team acquiring its own stadium.

The Red Sox’s decision was misguided. They didn’t excel in the slightest after Babe Ruth’s departure, and the infamous “Curse of the Bambino” was born. The “Curse of Babe Ruth,” that is. The trade went down in history as… a bad one, and that’s what Trump based his arguments on. Of course, the late (he died of cancer in 1948) baseball player had managed to make his stats seem unbeatable even to this day, completing the ultimate revenge story. The 27-year-old international guard, however, is still giving it his all.

Donald Trump’s stance

“The Mavericks are a great team, and I hope they do well. I have to tell you, I don’t understand the Dončić trade. That trade isn’t good, but what do I know about basketball? I’d say it’s not going to go down in history as the best trade in sports history. It might go down as the worst trade in sports history.

In fact, the worst trade in sports history was the one involving the great Babe Ruth. He was traded for a 36-year-old third baseman and $100,000. Back then, that was like $10 million, I suppose, because Boston needed the money. So Babe will always be the worst trade. But the Luka trade wasn’t great either. Maybe we could redo that deal. I make deals like that all the time. I don’t understand this deal.”
