A few weeks before the official tip-off of the new season, Dimitris Giannakopoulos hosted a luncheon to foster unity, get to know one another, and build team spirit, attended by the club’s entire competitive roster.
Of course, the iconic Zeljko Obradovic was also present; he spoke during the meeting, highlighting the differences from his first tenure with the “clover,” while also promising the best possible results for the upcoming season.
Here is what Zeljko Obradović said:
“Mr. President, my dear friend Dimitris. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be back with this wonderful Panathinaikos family. To have the joy of reuniting with players I worked with for 13 years, and to feel that we created something special all those years ago with your father and your uncle. Thank you for giving me the chance to meet new people as well.
In 2012, Panathinaikos was a great organization. Today, it’s something else entirely! That’s what I tell everyone. Getting to meet all of you who work for Panathinaikos is incredible. And I get the feeling that everyone is happy to be a part of Panathinaikos, works hard, and enjoys being here.
On my part and on behalf of my players—who are the most important of us all—I’ll try to promise, speaking for everyone, that we’ll fight for the best. We’re at the stadium all day, starting early in the morning, and we’ll do our best. Whether that’s enough, who knows. But we’ll give it our all to bring this team up to the level where it belongs—in terms of culture, in line with what people across Europe and the world know about Panathinaikos. So thank you once again; I’m very happy.”
