His continued presence is considered crucial to the team’s game plan, as OFI officials wanted to keep on the roster a player who already understands the club’s demands and has proven his value and usefulness.
Last season, Athanasiou made a total of 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and proving to be one of the most consistent options on the left side of the defense.
