Joan Capdevila will not be able to watch the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday night. U.S. authorities rejected the request from the former left back and World Cup champion with the “Roja” in 2010 on the fields of South Africa due to his participation with LaLiga Legends in Tehran in 2016, in accordance with the rules of the Visa Waiver Program, which have restricted travel from Iran since 2011 for security reasons.
Consequently, since the two-time former European champion with the Spanish team had participated in that specific match, his online visa waiver application was denied.
The 48-year-old former player for Villarreal and Benfica posted on X, tagging Donald Trump and asking him to help make it possible for him to be at MetLife with his children to watch his former team’s bid to win its second title in the competition.
“I NEED HELP
. I just found out I can’t travel to the final with my kids because my ESTA was denied. Can anyone help me with this? You have no idea how excited I was to be there with all my 2010 teammates and this team to cheer them on.
I can’t believe they won’t let me enter the U.S. and that I’ll miss a moment like this with my kids, who love soccer so much…
If anyone knows how to fix this, I’ll be grateful to them for the rest of my life.”
