Fears were confirmed for Yiannis Konstantelias, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during his Bundesliga debut with Dortmund against Hamburg. The Greek attacking midfielder was seriously injured during the match and will be sidelined for several months, missing a large portion of the season.
Borussia announced the extent of the injury and sent a message of support to the 23-year-old star: “The entire BVB family is behind you, Giannis! You’ll come back stronger.” Konstantelias had just made his first appearance in the German league, but misfortune struck immediately, and the player is now undergoing rehabilitation. And all this after he’d already won over the Germans with his performance in last week’s Super Cup final against Bayern, where he put on a spectacular show. The same was true yesterday, when he even scored the goal that made it 2-0, showing that he’s starting the season strong and justifying Dortmund’s investment in him.
Konstantelias is facing one of the most difficult injuries in soccer. The club stands by him and expects him to return stronger than ever.
