Antonio Cordón’s return to Olympiacos is not merely a matter of filling a vacancy in the soccer department’s administrative structure, but rather a role with expanded responsibilities and substantial involvement in the overall planning of the “Red-and-Whites.”
The Spaniard is expected to once again work very closely with Vangelis Marinakis and become one of the key figures in the operation of the club. His role will be broader than that of a traditional sports director, as he will have overall oversight of key issues concerning the day-to-day operations and strategy of the soccer division.

His responsibilities will include coordinating competitive operations, overseeing the various departments, and collaborating with management and the head coach. At the same time, he will play an active role in transfer planning—both in signing new players and in player departures—though the primary responsibility will, of course, remain with management and the head coach.
Particular emphasis is expected to be placed on transfer preparations ahead of January, with Kordon being called upon to activate his network of contacts and assist in assessing the roster’s needs. His knowledge of the international market and the contacts he has developed over the years are considered a significant “asset” for Olympiacos.
At the same time, the Spaniard will serve as a liaison between management and the sports department, with the goal of ensuring better coordination and a clearer division of responsibilities. Essentially, this is a role that requires a daily presence and direct involvement in all important matters concerning the first team.
Cordón’s return came about following recent discussions with Vangelis Marinakis. The two sides discussed the possibility of a new collaboration and ultimately reached an agreement, with the Spaniard returning to Piraeus a few years after his first tenure.
