Olympiacos' third friendly match on Dutch soil!
The “Red-and-Whites” face Fortuna Sittard tonight (7:30 p.m.), continuing their preparations for the new season in the Netherlands and in Vlaardingen.
Now that they’ve entered the second phase of their preseason, the Piraeus-based team continues to push themselves to the limit, aiming to be as ready as possible when their official matches begin in early August and in the Champions League qualifiers. In fact, less than 24 hours after tonight’s friendly concludes, they’ll face their toughest test yet against Ajax (July 18, 4:30 p.m.), followed by Medilibar’s team facing Antwerp (July 24) and Alkmaar (July 25).
In its first two friendlies, Olympiacos came from behind to defeat Polish side Rakow 2-1, while a week ago it drew 1-1 with Belgian side Leuven. The “Red-and-Whites’” coach will have another opportunity tonight to experiment and draw useful conclusions, while attention also remains focused on the transfer market, where the Piraeus-based club is racing to bolster its roster as soon as possible!
As for absences, El Kaabi has not yet joined preseason training, Clayton is unavailable due to the injury he sustained in the match against Leuven, while Retsos and Mouzakitis continue to train individually, as they have not yet recovered from the nagging injuries they are dealing with.
On the other hand, Fortuna Sittard will compete in the Dutch top division again this year, having finished last season in 11th place. The team is in the final stages of its preseason preparations, with only one more friendly match to play before the start of its official fixtures.
