Olympiacos BC responded to a news report that falsely claimed that the former Olympiacos player and current Panathinaikos player, Moustapha Fall, had falsely stated that he would play for the Greek national team in order to expedite the process of obtaining a Greek passport.
“How was it suddenly decided to change this specific circular by the Secretary General of Citizenship, creating a new, tailor-made circular for the Panathinaikos player?” the “Red-and-Whites” ask.
The full statement reads:
We were surprised to read yesterday (August 27) a news report stating that our former athlete and current Panathinaikos player, Moustapha Fall, falsely stated in an official document submitted to a public authority that he would play for the Greek national team in order to expedite the process of obtaining his Greek passport.
In the same report, we learned that following his application, the General Secretariat for Citizenship issued a circular specifically to accommodate him, and a positive recommendation was issued immediately without properly reviewing the facts of the case as they should have.
Was a relevant inquiry made to the Hellenic Basketball Federation before the positive recommendation was issued?
How was it suddenly decided to amend this specific circular by the Secretary General of Citizenship, creating a new, tailor-made circular for the Panathinaikos player?
The relevant authorities must immediately take a stance and inform the entire country of the current rules so that there is no room for doubt.
