Olympiacos is gearing up for the match against Nijmegen and new signings. As for Tuesday’s match (August 11, 8:30 p.m.) against the Dutch side, the Piraeus-based team will hold its third and final training session on Greek soil today. Tomorrow morning, they will depart for Veze Airport, which is the closest to Nijmegen, and from there they will travel by road.
José Luis Medilibar is putting the finishing touches on his lineup and has plenty of changes in the works for the “Red-and-Whites’” starting eleven. First of all, Santiago Ese trained on Saturday as well, looking fully ready. Consequently, he’ll be one of the Piraeus side’s midfielders, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll take the place of García or Mouzakitis.
Despite Popovic’s strong performance, it’s not out of the question that Ortega will start in goal. Certainly, Pirola, who “shored up” Olympiacos’ defense upon entering the first match, will start from the beginning. The right side of the defense remains a question mark, a position shared by Saliakas and Mafeo in the first game. It’s possible that Rodinei could return. Zelsson and Zota are expected to take their places in the starting lineup after their strong performances in Faliro, having come off the bench.
As for transfers, a midfielder and a left back are top priorities. According to reports from Spain, Puerta remains a possibility, while Bragança is always on the list. Of course, there are always rumors surrounding Brozović and Amrabat. For the left side of the defense, the club needs to find a player to fill the void left by Francisco Ortega. Beyond that, Olympiacos will sign a forward to partner with El Kaabi, since Yaremchuk and Taremi aren’t in the starting lineup at the moment. This was evident from the decision to leave them out of the squad for the first match against Nijmegen.
