David Fuster’s return to Olympiacos is in the final stages, this time in a different role. The Spaniard has spent several hours over the past few days at the Renti training center, with discussions between the two sides having progressed significantly and official announcements expected to clarify the exact terms of the collaboration.
The veteran star of the “Red-and-Whites” had the opportunity to meet both with people he knows from his previous stint at the club and with members of the Spanish coaching staff. Of particular significance were his meetings with Antonio Cordón, with whom he shares a history from their time together at Villarreal, and he also spoke with Imanol Alguaiz and other executives from the soccer department.

The direction that appears to have been set envisions a substantive role with a direct link to the first team. Among the scenarios discussed are his working alongside Alguacil or his close collaboration with Cordon, while the possibility of leveraging his experience in the academy has also been on the table. Fuster has been in contact with various departments of the club since his return to Athens, suggesting that his role could be broader.
The 44-year-old has gained significant experience since the end of his playing career. In 2020, he joined Valencia as Head of Talent Management at the academy, playing an active role in the evaluation and development of young players. He did not limit himself to scouting but maintained daily contact with the players and coaches, with the goal of fostering their individualized development.
In 2023, he joined Villarreal’s coaching staff, gaining experience in the day-to-day operations of a La Liga first team. Thus, roughly a decade after leaving Olympiacos as a player, Fuster is preparing to return to Piraeus, now armed with insights and knowledge from two distinct areas of modern soccer: talent development and first-team operations.
