Olympiacos and PAOK will compete tonight (8:00 p.m.) for the Stoiximan Super Cup trophy in the grand final to be held at the “Andreas Papandreou” Indoor Arena in Peristeri. The “Red-and-Whites” confirmed their status as favorites in the semifinal against AEK, while the revamped “Double-Headed Eagle of the North” pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament in its first official game of the season, defeating Panathinaikos 84-82 with a buzzer-beater by Jedi Osman and securing their spot in the final.
For Olympiacos, tonight’s game represents a second chance to win a title this season. Giorgos Bartzokas’s team lost to Real Madrid a week ago in the EuroLeague Super Cup final and this time wants to finish the job, adding a fifth consecutive Greek Super Cup to its trophy case.
On the other hand, PAOK aims to build on its major upset victory over Panathinaikos and kick off the new season with a title. In fact, should they win, it will be the first Stoiximan Super Cup in the history of the “Double-Headed Eagle,” a fact that adds even greater significance to tonight’s match.
On the court, Olympiacos will be without the injured Nikola Milutinov, the suspended Taurek Jones, and Cory Joseph, who is not on the eight-man foreign player roster. On the other hand, PAOK will be without the injured Rayquan Gray and the foreign player that Andrea Trinchieri chooses to leave out of his starting six.
