Strengthening the midfield is at the top of Olympiacos’s transfer agenda, with the "Red-and-Whites" seeking to sign a top-tier midfielder before the second phase of preseason training in the Netherlands.
The Piraeus-based club is exploring the market for both a player who can partner with Chikini and a player with the characteristics of a “six” or “eight.”
Sofian Amrabat remains high on the list. His situation is considered particularly challenging due to his high salary, which exceeds four million euros per year; however, Olympiacos believes there is a channel of communication that could lead to an agreement.
Fenerbahçe, to which the Moroccan midfielder is under contract for one more season, does not appear willing to keep him. Meanwhile, Betis, where he played on loan, would like to keep him, but financial constraints limit its options.
Olympiacos is trying to apply some “pressure” on Amrabat, capitalizing on the player’s good relationship with Ayoub El Kaabi. At the same time, his brother, Nordine Amrabat, has a positive view of Greece based on his time with AEK. If the 30-year-old international midfielder says “yes,” the Piraeus club appears willing to go above and beyond financially.
At the same time, the situation regarding Petar Stanic remains unresolved. Although there has been a new setback in recent hours, there are no signs from Bulgaria that the deal has definitively “fallen through”. Both clubs continue to seek a solution, while the Serbian midfielder himself appears open to the possibility of continuing his career in Piraeus.
Reports indicate that there is a verbal agreement for nine million euros plus bonuses, but there remains one obstacle that must be overcome. Olympiacos is awaiting final negotiations, and if a solution is not found, it is possible that this deal could be shelved for good.
The situation regarding Lorient’s Noah Kadiou also remains open. The “Red-and-Whites” continue to monitor his situation, though no decisive step has yet been taken to finalize the transfer.
At the same time, the case of Marcelo Brozović, who became a free agent after leaving Al-Nassr, has also been examined. However, due to his age and particularly high financial demands, his case presents significant challenges.
After the friendly against Leuven, the Olympiacos squad will return to Greece, concluding the first phase of their preseason training in Vlaardingen. The players will take a breather and on Wednesday will depart again for the Netherlands, where José Luis Medilibar wants to work with a more specific group and with as few unresolved issues in the roster as possible.
