Olympiacos has stepped up its activity in the transfer market and is seriously considering three deals that could significantly reshape its roster. The focus is on Edson Alvarez, Ruben Vargas, and Patrick Mele, with the “Red-and-Whites” trying to take advantage of the final days of the transfer window.
The case of Alvarez is one of the most notable. The captain of the Mexican national team is currently with West Ham and fits the profile of the player Olympiacos is looking for in midfield. He can play as a defensive midfielder as well as in the center of the defense, bringing strength, intensity, and experience. The Piraeus club has held significant talks with West Ham, which owns the 28-year-old Mexican. Real Sociedad had also shown interest in him, with the Spanish club coming close to a deal, though the transfer ultimately fell through.
The “Red-and-Whites” are reportedly seriously considering a loan deal, with reports indicating that the player is also open to the idea. Álvarez’s contract with West Ham runs through 2028, which makes a permanent transfer a difficult prospect. For this reason, a loan deal appears to be the most realistic option under discussion.
At the same time, Ruben Vargas is one of the top options to bolster the wings. The Swiss international belongs to Sevilla and can play on both sides of the attack. His speed, technical ability, and one-on-one skills are qualities that appeal to Olympiacos, which is looking for a player who can provide immediate solutions on offense. It’s not an easy task, as finances remain a key factor, but in Piraeus, there seems to be a willingness to make a serious effort.
Patrick Melle’s name is also on the table. The Danish left back can cover the entire flank and is a proven option with a strong track record. Olympiacos wants to strengthen that position, and Melle is high on their list, although his situation is considered difficult. His team has no reason to let him go easily, a fact that requires patience and careful negotiation.
