Olympiacos did not let the summons issued to Imanol Alguacil and the club by the DEAB go unchallenged.

In Piraeus, officials commented that this was a politically motivated prosecution instigated by Panathinaikos FC and Yiannis Alafouzos, while noting that the authorities never requested that the Basque coach’s post be taken down.

“Furthermore, there are no offensive words in the image accompanying our coach’s post. So, what exactly are they summoning him for?” they added.

The full statement from Olympiacos FC:

The unacceptable summons of our coach to appear before the DEAB (i.e., the Ministry of Sports), on a day when our team is competing under the Greek flag in Europe, demonstrates how the Ministry views sports.

Essentially, they are summoning our coach to apologize because he posted on his social media an image from the stadium, a scene that actually took place on the field, captured in a choreographed display, which never incited any kind of violence!

The match officials never asked for the image posted by our coach to be taken down!

Furthermore, there are no offensive words in the image in our coach’s post. So, what exactly are they charging him with?

It is CLEAR that this is a fabricated prosecution instigated by Panathinaikos FC, Alafouzos, and the tabloid media (SKAI, etc.), which have fabricated an issue that does not exist!
