Olympiacos FC released further details regarding the French authorities’ decision to ban its fans from traveling to Marseille, in an official statement.
The statement outlines the reasons why it was ultimately decided that the “Red-and-Whites’” fans would not travel to the match against Marseille and states that ticket holders will receive refunds.
The full statement reads as follows:
The French authorities announced just this Tuesday (October 13) a ban on the presence of Olympiacos fans at the match against Marseille. Specifically, according to the official administrative decision, it states, among other things:
“The French National Anti-Hooliganism Agency (DNHL) has classified this match as the highest risk level. At the same time, the match is taking place during a period of significant student protests at the national and local levels.
The protests began in Créteil on September 17 and spread throughout France starting on September 28, 2026. In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, and particularly in Marseille, schools have been blockaded and there have been numerous clashes with police forces, resulting in serious incidents during the protests. The situation is expected to continue at least until Friday, October 16, 2026, the eve of the school break.
Conclusion of the Police Authorities
The authorities assess that it is not possible to implement security measures sufficient to address the risks associated with the movement of Greek Olympic fans. According to the decision, inadequate monitoring of their movements would certainly lead to serious disturbances of public order. The measure is deemed entirely proportionate to the necessary protection of public order under these specific exceptional circumstances.
Operative Part of the Decision – Prohibition on Entry and Movement
From Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, October 16, 2026, at 2:00 a.m., any person who identifies as or appears to be a fan of Olympiacos or Red Star Belgrade, or behaves as such, is prohibited from:
– Entering the CEPAC Velodrome stadium.
– To walk on public streets
.– To park on public streets.
This ban applies to the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th districts of Marseille.”
Olympiacos FC notes that it will immediately begin the ticket cancellation process, and in the coming days, refunds will be credited to the account of every fan who purchased a ticket. The ticket cancellations apply to both 1st-category tickets (€49) and those in the away sector (€15).
