The statement from Olympiacos BC:

“We understand the obsession of Panathinaikos BC and its owner against Olympiacos and its members, but perhaps you could find a little time, between drafting your complaints, to inform the sports fans about something truly substantial concerning the health and career of one of your athletes?

Several months have passed since then, but your hatred for Olympiacos and its presidents, aside from clouding your judgment, seems to be affecting your memory as well.

Olympiacos BC is informing fans today about what happened last November, regarding the health of basketball player Matías Lesor and the surgery he underwent performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Niek van Dijk, a close associate of our team and the personal physician of Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos.

Panathinaikos BC and the French center, along with his representative, consulted Dutch professor Dr. Niek van Dijk to treat the athlete’s medical condition and were informed by him that in Greece he has an exclusive agreement with Olympiacos and can only take on Matias Lesor with special permission. The president of Panathinaikos BC contacted the vice president of Olympiacos BC and requested our permission, as did the player’s representative. Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos immediately gave his approval and personally contacted Dr. Van Dijk to inform him.

For us, the health of an athlete—and indeed of every fellow human being—both physical and mental, is non-negotiable.
