The wait is over!
At 8:00 p.m. today (July 22), Omonia takes the field in the Champions League qualifiers as it hosts Kairat at GSP Stadium in the first leg of the second qualifying round.
The Nicosia-based team is looking to secure a positive result to get off to an ideal start and take a step… toward qualification, ahead of the second leg in Almaty in a week (July 29 – 6:00 p.m.). Today’s match at GSP Stadium will be… a cauldron, as more than 10,000 fans of the champions are expected to attend.
On the field, Henning Berg can count on 23 players in the squad, while the unprepared Odubajo was left out. Specifically, the squad consists of: Uzoh, Fabiano, Michael, Koulibaly, Aiting, Montnor, Kakoulis, Hatzigiovanis, Evandro, Maric, Mayabela, Tankovic, Simic, Balkovec, Panagiotou, Kousoulos, P. Andreou, Nego, Christou, Neophytou, Konstantinidis, Christoforou, and Dionis.
It’s worth noting that if they advance, the “Shamrock” will face the winner of the Levski Sofia–Craiova matchup in the third round. If they are eliminated, the “Greens” will… be relegated to the third round of the Europa League and will face the loser of the Mialbi-Lincoln matchup.
Omonia’s probable starting lineup: Fabiano, Balkovec, Koulibaly, Panagiotou, Nego, Maric, Andreou, Tankovic, Evandro, Montnor, Kakoulis
