Alejandro Grimaldo is expected to join Atlético Madrid for the upcoming season, as the two sides have reached a full agreement on the transfer of the Spanish left back from Bayer Leverkusen.
According to what journalist Mateo Moreto revealed on the “Despierta Nueva York” on Radio MARCA, only the final bureaucratic procedures and the exchange of the necessary documents remain, with the deal expected to be made official within the next few hours.
Atlético is expected to finalize a significant addition to the left side of its defense, adding to its roster a player who is coming off exceptional seasons with Bayer Leverkusen.
Grimaldo will sign a three-year contract with an option to extend for one additional season. In fact, to expedite the process, the Spanish international is expected to undergo the necessary medical exams while he is with the Spanish national team.
The 30-year-old left back has made 145 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists. He spent most of his career at Benfica, where he made 303 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 66 assists.
