Panetolikos vs. Kalamata: The home team is out for… revenge; the visitors are looking for their “first win”

Kickoff at 9:30 p.m.
ALPHANEWSLIVE

They face off again after their first “battle” in the Superbet Greek Cup. Just a few days after their match at “El Paso,” Panetolikos and Kalamata will face off in Agrinio tonight at 9:30 p.m. for Matchday 2 of the Stoiximan Super League, in one of the most intriguing matches of this round of the league.

The home team may have lost their Cup match—which was their first official game of the season— but in their league opener, they bounced back and, with a convincing performance, defeated Asteras AKTOR 3-1. Yiannis Anastasiou’s team may not be entirely ready in terms of personnel, but a strong start to the league season always creates a sense of euphoria and calm within the team.

On the field, the “Canaries” are fully prepared for tonight’s match, with only Smyrlis and Opoku out—the former due to injury and the latter not yet ready.

On the other side, Kalamata—following a “tough” loss to Aris in the season opener—is looking to get off to a winning start at a home stadium where few teams are likely to come away with a victory. The team from Messinia managed to beat Panetolikos 4-2 in their first official match of the season in the Cup, but luck wasn’t on their side against Aris, as they lost 3-2 after giving up a late comeback.

The team’s coach, Panagiotis Christofileas, boosted his players’ morale and prepared them adequately so they would be ready for an away win at Panetolikos’ home stadium.

On the field, the Greek coach will not be able to count on Bolivar, who is suspended, while Vargas is also out. On the positive side, Sigurdsson is back after missing the match against Aris. Among others, the squad includes new signings Aaron Martin and Stavros Angelis.

The most likely starting lineups:

Panetolikos (Yiannis Anastasiou): Koutserenko – Mavrias, Granath, Stagić, Manrique – Kozić, Nakamba – Esteban, Souma, Genepo – Mejía

Kalamata (Panagiotis Christofileas): Gelios – Kaloutsikidis, Stroungis, Alonso – Kareaso, Liatsikouras, Hamza – Sigurdsson, Moreira, Sigurdsson

Referee: Tsetsilas
; Assistant Referees: Moisidis, Papadopoulou
; Fourth Official: Koukoulás;
VAR: Koubarakis, Megas
