Regarding the new signings, Koundé and Kynigopoulos; regarding the fact that Olympiacos is in talks with two foreign players who play in midfield; the issue of Džepar and the investor, season tickets, and the performance of Konstantinos Christou—the “Black-and-Greens’” press officer, Andreas Panaretou, in comments he gave to “SPOR FM 95.”
Here is what he said in detail:
On the new signing
“Eduardo Koundé is a Brazilian with German roots; he is 28 years old, and he was handpicked by the coaching staff to be the team’s new center back. We are essentially placing a great deal of hope in this player, who possesses leadership qualities, and we hope to see those on the field as well.”
Regarding his most recent team
“His last team was Kampala, where he had a very productive season. In addition, he had three solid seasons, and that’s something we want to consider before reaching an agreement with any player. He is the player we wanted for that specific position, a player who fits the profile sought by both our coach and our technical director, and we’d like to believe that we’ve made a good choice at a good age, with tremendous potential to help uson the field. The player has arrived, signed his contract, and will have his first training session today.
Regarding Kynigopoulos
“Kynigopoulos has also been here in Cyprus for a few days now; he, too, has passed the necessary medical exams, has signed his contract, and is also at Mr. Kostis’s disposal.”
On new signings
“The team will be further strengthened. I believe we’ll be looking to sign players who play in midfield. We’re in talks with two midfielders from abroad who’ve had full seasons. I want to emphasize that a full season of play is something that is very important to us when making a selection—basically, for the planning department. A player must possess the qualities needed for the position he plays and, at the same time, have played full seasons so that we, too, have as much of a safety net as possible, because there’s always a risk with transfers—that they won’t perform as we expect. We believe that all transfers are based on the plan and strategy that Mr. Petrou and our coach have laid out, and we believe that the choices we make involve as little risk as possible.”
On whether Olympiacos is interested in players currently playing in Cyprus
“As I’ve said before, we’re in the midst of a transfer market that’s both large and active—it’s a dynamic process: some players are leaving, others are coming; at the same time, we need to keep our eyes open so that if something comes up, we can move forward and make a move. I believe something will come up in this area—a young player who will join our team on loan—but we’ll have to wait for the official announcements.”
The matter of Džepar
“The matter regarding Džepar is being handled by the president. They are in talks to find a solution to this issue.”
Regarding the investor
“There’s nothing new regarding the investor; discussions and the process we’ve mentioned are ongoing. This committee evaluates and discusses proposals; if a proposal meets the criteria we’ve set, it’s discussed again, but there’s nothing close to being submitted to a General Assembly for approval.”
Regarding season tickets
“As for season tickets, great work is being done, and for this reason we want the Olympiacos community to embrace this effort, to show their support in a tangible way—and the way to do that is by purchasing a season ticket.”
Regarding Konstantinos Christou
“Konstantinos will join the team for preseason training in Kyperounta; he’s made a good impression so far, and from there on, it’s up to the coach to decide.”
