Aiming to remain undefeated in the EuroLeague, Panathinaikos hosts Maccabi Tel Aviv tonight (Oct. 2, 9:15 p.m.) at the Telekom Center Athens for Game 3. The “Clover” aims to wrap up the season’s first grueling week with two wins, once again capitalizing on its home-court advantage.
The “Greens” have gotten off to a strong start in Europe’s top competition, having defeated Paris 91–72 and Villeurbanne 102–79. In Wednesday’s game, Sylvain Francisco scored 19 points and Lefteris Mantzoukas added 16, confirming that the team is finding solutions from different players.
Injury issues, however, continue to limit Zeljko Obradovic’s options. Nan, Sloukas, Hayes-Davis, Fall, and Hernangómez remain on the injury list, making the management of available players particularly crucial for the second game in 48 hours.
On the other hand, Maccabi arrives in Athens seeking its first win, following two losses to start the season and a crushing 93-109 defeat by Besiktas in Belgrade. Oded Katash called for an immediate response, focusing on his team’s defensive performance and lack of cohesion. A last-minute setback for the Israelis, who, by all accounts, will be without Daniel Theis, who suffered an ankle injury in their last game against the Turks.
The referees for the game will be Juan Carlos García (Spain), Alberto Baena (Spain), and Hüseyin Çelik (Turkey).
