Panathinaikos and PAOK will face off tonight (8:00 p.m.) in the grand final of the 8th “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament, in a match that may be a friendly but holds special competitive interest. This all-Greek final comes just a few days before the two teams’ official meeting in the semifinals of the Greek Super Cup (September 26).
The “Seven-Stars” advanced by defeating the French team Bourg 90–69 in a game where their exceptional defense stood out, as did their explosive offense. The “Greens” displayed determination, energy, and versatility on offense, combining efficiency with a particularly dynamic presence on the defensive end.
On the other hand, PAOK needed a real nail-biter to secure their spot in the final. The “Double-Headed Eagle of the North” defeated Partizan 100-99 in a stunning game that came down to the wire and offered unforgettable thrills. The standout performers for the Greek team were the formidable Jady Osman, who scored 27 points, as well as Marcus Foster with 25 points, who actually sank the game-winning basket.
Osman’s presence, in fact, adds a special dimension to tomorrow’s final. The Turkish star played for Panathinaikos last season, so his return to face his former team is one of the highlights of the matchup. Already, yesterday, he was given a hero’s welcome by the “Greens” fans.
Absences are also expected to play a significant role in how the two teams perform. For Panathinaikos, Kostas Sloukas, Nikos Rogavopoulos, Centric Nan, Nigel Hayes-Davis, and Moustapha Fall, while PAOK will be without Brin Tyree and Rayquan Gray. These absences shape the dynamics of the matchup and give both coaches the opportunity to try out different lineups and make the most of their available rosters.
