Panathinaikos played with fire, but the quality and incredible depth of its roster kept it from getting burned!
On Thursday night (10/22) the “Greens” fell short of the high standards we’ve come to expect from them this season; they saw Baskonia give them a tough time and keep the pressure on until the very end, however, in the end, the weight of the jersey and the players’ character made the difference, and the “clover” celebrated a hard-fought, yet well-deserved, 85-79 victory at the Telekom Center Athens in the seventh round of the EuroLeague.
Essentially, the game was decided in the final minute, when Francisco and Yabusele broke the tie with two three-pointers (79-79) and led Obradović’s team back to European victory and to their sixth win of the season. Earlier, however, Matías Lesor was the undisputed star and the one leading the “clover,” finishing the game with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and a rating of 28.
Hayes-Davis (18 pts., 7 reb.) and Francisco (10 pts., 11 assists, 5 steals), while Kendrick Nunn made a positive impression in his European debut this season with 11 points and 5 assists. For the Basques, Espanyol stood out with 16 points and 4 assists.
Quarter scores: 20-21, 43-40, 63-54, 85-79.
