The countdown to PAOK’s first official game of the new season has begun, with Alessio Lisi preparing his team for Thursday’s European match at Toumba against Dynamo Kyiv, in the first match of the second qualifying round of the Europa League.
The Italian coach has largely finalized the core of the “Double-Headed Eagle,” but just a few hours before kickoff, there are still three key questions regarding the starting lineup. The first concerns the center of the defense, where Giannis Michailidis is considered a sure starter, with Aritz Elustondo and Pantelis Hatzidiakos vying for the spot alongside him.
Hatzidiakos has experience in high-level matches and can provide greater stability in a game with heightened demands. Elustondo, on the other hand, was intended to be a starter from the outset; he’s in good match rhythm and appears ready to handle the intensity of such an important match.
The second dilemma lies in the “black-and-white” midfield. Christos Zafeiris is expected to start, but it remains to be seen who will play alongside him. Baptiste Santamaria brings a clear head, good positioning, and balance in defense, while Madi Kamara brings more intensity, runs into the opponent’s box, and an attacking presence.
The third decision concerns the left side of the attack, with Lissi choosing between Tyson’s experience and Taha Ali’s freshness. The Brazilian is well acquainted with the demands of European competition, while Ali can offer speed and dynamism in one-on-one situations. Whoever starts will face Thomas Kenziora, who, until a few months ago, wore the PAOK jersey and now plays as a right back for Dynamo Kyiv.
