Anorthosis introduced head coach Nestor El Maestro, as well as Nektarios Alexandrou (Director of Soccer) and Nikos Nikolaou (Football Planning Advisor).
Highlights of what was said:
Nestor El Maestro (Head Coach): “I am proud to be the new head coach of Anorthosis. Everyone knows it is a great and historic club. It’s easy to see why it’s a special club, and I’m happy for this opportunity. I’d like to thank the Anorthosis administration for their trust, the staff, the players who welcomed me, and the fans I’ve met. I’m fully aware of the task ahead. I know about the club’s recent and past successes. It’s a big responsibility, and we want to rise to the challenge. With hard work, we’ll play good soccer and celebrate big wins.”
On the fact that the team was unable to bring in new players: “We were aware of the circumstances, and we’ll work with the situation as it is—in which I see the positives, namely better teamwork and chemistry. The goal is to create a good atmosphere in the locker room.”
On the style of play he wants to implement: “You’ll see on Sunday how we line up. It would be easy to spout fancy, grandiose words that get the crowd fired up, but I won’t do that. What matters is our identity and spirit on the field.”
On young players: “It’s a pleasure for me to work with young players at Anorthosis; I’ve done it before. It’s part of the club’s plan to bring young players up through the ranks.”
Nektarios Alexandrou (Director of Soccer): “I’ll start by thanking the new administration for the trust they’ve placed in me at this critical and important juncture in Anorthosis’s reorganization. It’s an honor for me; I know where I stand. Anorthosis is a tremendous club with a home stadium that used to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who came to play here.
It is up to all of us who are here every day to convey this character and social impact to the players, the coaching staff, and every person involved with the team. We want to field a competitive team, one that plays with heart on the field and aims for victory.
We have goals, but we must take steady steps to achieve them. I’d also like to thank Nikos Nikolaou, who, through our daily interactions, helps me by conveying the team’s history to the coaching staff.”
Nikos Nikolaou (Football Planning Advisor): “I thank the president and the Board of Directors for the trust they’ve shown in me by bringing me back to the team as it embarks on this new chapter. The road ahead will be difficult, but we are determined to take the right steps so that the team can move forward, regain its former glory and culture, and make our fans proud once again.”
