Parpetas: “There’s no need to dismiss and question everything”—What he said about the KOP

His comments on Anorthosis

Anorthosis press officer Charalambos Parpetas spoke with “SPOR FM 95.0” about everything related to “The Lady.”

He was outspoken regarding the… grumbling about the team’s performance so far and also addressed the Cyprus Football Association’s (KOP) stance of rejecting proposals without even considering them.

His statements

On the team’s performance so far: “It’s absurd, to say the least, right from the very first matches, for there to be constant discussion surrounding the coach and the players of a team that we all know started this season under difficult circumstances. Anorthosis was unable to strengthen its roster through transfers. It was forced to start the season bearing the consequences of an extremely difficult previous season and a financial situation that threatened even the very survival of the soccer department. This is the reality that the new management inherited and was called upon to manage. Under these circumstances, it is unfair to have a “knife to the throat” of the coach and the players from the very first match. Especially when the team, despite its weaknesses and results that certainly do not satisfy us, has shown signs of improvement at key moments and elements upon which it can build.”

He added: “At the same time, we see other teams in roughly the same position in the standings, with significantly larger budgets and the ability to make substantial transfers, without generating a corresponding atmosphere of doubt and instability around them. We all need to realize the seriousness of the situation. We don’t need to start from scratch and question everything every week.”

On the grumbling and the administration: “We need more responsibility and less frivolity. Constant, hasty judgments and creating issues where none exist only serve to cause additional problems in an already difficult endeavor. Management is well aware of where the team stands, what its weaknesses are, and what needs to be corrected. We took over during an extremely difficult period, and we are working every day to address the problems of the past, restore the Club to health, and once again create the conditions for a strong and competitive Anorthosis. The road ahead of us is not an easy one. However, we will not deviate from our plan, nor will we allow anyone to create conditions of introversion and destabilization. We call on the entire Anorthosis community to join forces.”

Regarding the Cyprus Football Association (CFA): “The CFF’s stance of rejecting, without even discussing them, proposals aimed at modernizing and upgrading Cypriot soccer causes us deep concern. For our part, the least we would expect is a serious response—to be informed that our requests will be considered or that a relevant study will be conducted. The simultaneous invocation of the call for proposals, “costs,” “infrastructure,” or the fact that these are resources “only for advanced leagues” as excuses for immediate rejection does not constitute a serious argument. The regulations are drafted by us to serve soccer and, provided there is the will, can be amended and adapted to the demands of the times. Let’s not forget that many things we now take for granted in soccer once seemed completely unattainable.”
