Benfica defeated Omonia 4-1 at the GSP Stadium in the third matchday of the Europa League group stage.
The Greek forward for the Lisbon team, Vangelis Pavlidis, spoke to the media after the match and addressed his decision not to celebrate the goal he scored against the “Greens.”
Here’s what he said in detail:
“I’m not an Omonia fan, but before we came here—my brother lives in Cyprus now—I received a lot of love when we arrived on the island and when we went out to warm up. The fans showed a lot of warmth, which is why I didn’t celebrate. That’s how I felt at that moment. The atmosphere was really great; it was my first official match on Greek soil, in Cyprus. I had never played in Greece or Cyprus before.”
