Mainz’s crushing victory over Hamburg, with a resounding 0-5 victory in the second matchday of this year’s Bundesliga leaving no room for doubt.
The star of the show for the “Carnivalers” was, without a doubt, Becker. The Dutch forward opened the scoring with a solo effort in the 19th minute and set up two more goals for his teammates.
First, in the 41st minute, Embuene converted Becker’s cross to the far post into a goal with a close-range tap-in. Then, in the 48th minute, Titsch gave Mainz a three-goal lead after the 31-year-old star crossed the ball in from the right. At the same time, it was he who made it 0-4 in the 83rd minute, before Königsdorfer came on to set the final score in the first minute of stoppage time.
Thus, Palatinato’s team secured its first league victory and, with four points, moved up to fifth place. Meanwhile, the newly promoted home team remained goalless and without a point after two games, sitting in last place.
