The captain of the National Handball Team will serve as Cyprus’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the “Taranto 2026” Mediterranean Games.
It is the highest honor for Cypriot handball that the Cyprus Olympic Committee has selected Ioulios Argyrou, captain of the men’s national team, as Cyprus’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the “Taranto 2026” Mediterranean Games, which will take place on Friday (August 21).
Cyprus is participating in the Games with 145 athletes in 24 sports, with the Cypriot handball team taking part in the event for the first time, a development that reflects the sport’s rapid progress and the high regard in which it is held.
Ioulios Argyros’s selection to lead—along with shooter Konstantina Nikolaou — of the Cypriot team as they enter the stadium is a great honor for him personally and a recognition of his character, his contributions to the sport, and his illustrious career, as well as an honor for the national team.
The Cyprus Handball Federation wishes to thank the Cyprus Olympic Committee for this great honor and, more generally, for its overall cooperation and for including the sport in the delegation for theMediterranean Games. We would also like to congratulate Ioulis Argyrou, a model athlete and a credit to the sports world, not only in handball
