APOEL’s press officer, Nektarios Petevinos, spoke about all matters concerning the team, In comments made to “SUPERSPORT 104,” he discussed preseason preparations, friendly matches, transfer plans, and on-field issues.
He also discussed season tickets, the commemorative kits for the club’s 100th anniversary, as well as Piero Sotiriou, Mancini, and Becker.
On preseason training: “We’re in the final stretch of preseason training now—it’s a busy time for both the team and the fans. We’ve had the friendlies, the open practice, the 100th-anniversary event, and we’ll have the friendly against Anorthosis on Sunday. We also have the friendly against Olympiacos before the league starts.”
On the friendlies: “We’re a new team with a new coach, and all the friendlies are a rehearsal for us. We’re getting better with every game, and we want to be as ready as possible for the league.”
On transfers: “I don’t think there’s a single team that has closed its transfer window. A team that’s being built and will have a competitive philosophy—through the friendlies, the coach will decide where the team needs reinforcement and who can help him. The transfer landscape can change based on the results of the friendlies. If 15 days ago we said these were the priorities, the coach is now evaluating the situation based on the current data. With three weeks left until the end of the transfer window, we can’t say for sure. That’s something the coach and the technical director are handling.”
On Pereira: “I won’t get into naming names. Every day, other players’ names are being mentioned in connection with APOEL.”
On season tickets: “We’d like to have more than the 8,000 we have now. After the frenzied start we had, the pace has slowed, and there are some APOEL fans who want to see the schedule first and then buy season tickets. We’ve set a goal because this year is a landmark year, marking APOEL’s 100th anniversary. Anyone who isn’t at the stadium will miss out.”
Regarding the anniversary matches: “The first match—which features numbered tickets—is sold out. From here on out, we’re now in the process of open presale.”
On Piero: “He had fluid in his knee and went to Germany to be examined by the doctor who performed his surgery. He’s expected to return sometime in November.”
On Mancini: “It’s a procedure that requires time for the collarbone injury to heal. He’s an important player, and we’ll miss him for the first derbies.”
On Becker: “He’ll go on loan to Israel, but we haven’t finalized the paperwork yet.”
