Ben Shelton won the New York Marathon—and with it, a spot in the US Open semifinals!
In an incredible “clash of the titans” that set a record in the history of the American Grand Slam—as it became the latest-ending match in the tournament’s history —at 3:35 a.m. local time—the 23-year-old American prevailed 3-2 in sets (6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6) over Carlos Alcaraz after a match lasting 4 hours and 31 minutes, thus reaching the US Open semifinals for the second time in his career!
The world No. 9, who had eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round, managed to keep his composure at the crucial moments of the match and produce some big shots, ultimately edging out the world No. 3 from Spain in a close contest.

Both players had to push themselves to the limit on multiple occasions and overcome fatigue and exhaustion in an extremely demanding match that lasted many hours and went on until the early hours of the morning!
So, in the semifinals, we’ll have an all-American matchup, as Ben Shelton will face Francis Tiafoe (No. 11) on the road to the Grand Slam final.
