Wimbledon has a new “Queen” for the ninth consecutive season!
In a thrilling final full of twists and turns that took place on the center court of the British tournament, Linda Nosková won the Czech “derby” against her compatriot, Karolína Muchová, prevailing 2-1 in sets (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) after a match lasting 2 hours and 29 minutes, thus securing her historic first Grand Slam title.
The 21-year-old tennis player (world No. 12) not only held her ground in the face of the biggest challenge of her career, but also demonstrated great composure, maturity, and exceptional control of the match against her 29-year-old opponent (No. 9), even when she saw Muchova save five match points, come back from a 5-2 deficit, and take the second set 7-5.
Her response was explosive, as she won the first three games of the third set—all on her serve—bringing the match back to her own terms. Despite the pressure from Muchova, Noskova held her next three service games with relative ease, clinching the set and this historic victory.
The moments following the end of the match were deeply moving, as the 21-year-old champion burst into tears of joy, unable to contain her intense and unprecedented emotions.
In addition to proving she belongs among the elite of world tennis, Linda Noskova’s dream run on the courts of the British Grand Slam earned her a five-spot jump in the rankings, with her name now appearing at No. 7 in the world.
