Panathinaikos lived up to its status as the favorite, comfortably defeating the Vikos Falcons 103-74 in the first round of the Stoiximan GBL, in a game where they took control early on and left no room for doubt.
The “Greens” came out strong on the glass floor, dictated the pace, and managed to build a significant lead early on, turning the matchup into a one-sided affair. With a dominant performance, especially on offense, Panathinaikos maintained control throughout the game and cruised to its first victory in this year’s Stoiximan GBL.
The match also marked a historic moment for the Vikos Falcons. The Ioannina-based team made its debut in the top division, writing a special chapter in the history of the club as well as in the history of Epirus basketball, as it is the first team from Epirus to compete in the Stoiximan GBL.
The “Greens” put on a dominant performance, with five of the nine players who took the court scoring in double digits. Matías Lesor had 19 points, Nigel Hayes-Davis had 15, Dinos Mitoglou and Gershon Yabusele each had 14, 12 for Sylvain Francisco, and 10 for Lefteris Mantzoukas. Dimitris Moraitis had a very strong performance with 8 points and 10 assists.
Panathinaikos now turns its attention to its European commitments and Thursday’s (October 8, 9:15 p.m.) tough test against Fenerbahçe at the Telekom Center.
