Milan got off to the best possible start in the new Serie A season, securing a 2-1 victory on the road against Torino.
The “Rossoneri” stepped up their game in the second half and found the goal they were looking for in the 64th minute. The 19-year-old new signing, Alphage Cissé, in his debut appearance for Milan, received the ball on the right, controlled it with his knee, and immediately fired a right-footed shot into the far post to make it 0-1.
Two minutes later, the Milan team “sealed” the victory. Adrien Rabiot, who had come on as a substitute, made a smart run to the far post and, with a close-range finish following a cross from Chukwueze, made it 0-2. All Torino managed to do was pull one back in stoppage time through Che Adams, making the final score 1-2.
For its part, Atalanta also celebrated a victory in its season opener, defeating Sassuolo 2-1. The Bergamo-based team took an early lead, saw the score tied in the second half, but found the back of the net again to secure the three points.
Giacomo Raspantori, now an Atalanta player, was the one who opened the scoring in the 6th minute, capitalizing on a beautiful through ball from Gianluca Gaetano and finishing perfectly under the crossbar.
Sassuolo tied the game in the 55th minute when Odilon Kosunu made a mistake while trying to clear the ball with his head, with Kas Odedal pouncing on the… gift to make it 1-1.
Atalanta, however, remained undeterred and retook the lead in the 65th minute. Nikola Krstović took advantage of the opposing defense’s lapse and, with a cool finish, made it 2-1, which turned out to be the final score.
