Judicial Committee Imposes Travel Ban on AEL Fans

The Judicial Committee handed down a heavy penalty to AEL and Kafou.

Specifically, the player was handed a six-game suspension and a fine, while in response to the incidents during the derby against APOEL, a one-game ban on fan travel was imposed.

Penalties for AEL

*Complaint filed by Referee Panagiotis P. Hatzigeorgiou against CARLOS MIGUEL RIBEIRO DIAS, a player for AEL Limassol, who was sent off for spitting at an opposing player during the match and for unsportsmanliketoward the match referee after being sent off in the 56th minute (he was verbally abusing him), in violation of Articles 4(c), 8(v), and 9(k) of the CFF Disciplinary Regulations in the Cyprus League by Stoiximan First Phase match of the 2026–2027 season between APOEL Nicosia vs. AEL Limassol on September 6, 2026 (Matchday 2).

Decision: Six-match suspension and a fine.

*Complaint against AEL Limassol:

(a) for the bringing of dangerous objects (flares) into the stadium (into the stands) by the team’s fans, in violation of Article 10.3(d1a) of the C.F.A. Disciplinary Regulations

Decision: Fine.

(b) for the ignition of dangerous objects (flares) before the start of and during the match, in violation of Article 10.3(d1b) of the CFF Disciplinary Regulations.

Decision: Fine.

(c) for the throwing of objects by the team’s fans onto the field and onto the playing surface during the match, in violation of Articles 10.2 (b) and 10.3(c) of the CFF Disciplinary Regulations.

Decision: Fine.

(d) for incidents caused by the team’s fans in the north stands of the stadium, which caused disturbances in the stands and/or threatened to cause harm to any person inside the stadium during and after the match,  in violation of Articles 4(kβ) and 5 of the Disciplinary Regulations of the Cyprus Football Association (K.O.P.).

(i) in the 4th minute of the match, a fan of the home team set a fire in the stands and was burning a scarf belonging to the visiting team, an act that threatened to cause damage to the interior of the stadium, the stands, and/or spectators.

(ii) In the 32nd minute of the game, a fan of the home team in the north stands threw an object (a battery) toward the west stands, where fans of the visiting team were located, resulting in a head injury to a minor, who was immediately transported by match officials to the stadium physician.

(iii) After the match ended, fans of the team engaged in minor clashes with the police in the north stands, resulting in the injury of a police officer, who was transported to the hospital by the ambulance located inside the stadium.

Decision: A one-match ban on fan travel and a fine.
