Nick Kyrgios found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, as the 31-year-old tennis player tested positive for cocaine.
The Australian has been suspended since August 4, and his punishment is now official; the penalty imposed on him is lenient, as it calls for a suspension of just one month.
Kyrgios admitted his mistake and apologized to his followers on social media, with the ITIA deciding not to impose the full severity of the penalty and, instead of three months, the penalty was reduced to one month. At the same time, the athlete himself will enroll in a treatment program to address the issue and gradually return to competition. The one-month suspension ended on Thursday, September 3.
