Ponte for… a coach: “We made a big deal out of every mistake, and the results speak for themselves.”

He described a story in which he photographs Medilibar and Tzolakis

With José Luis Medilibar’s departure from Olympiacos, farewell messages have been pouring in from people associated with the team—from current players to even… former players of the Basque coach, with whom he has worked all these years in Piraeus.

The latest to join the list is Daniel Podence. The Portuguese attacking midfielder, in a social media post, recounted a story in which a certain… coach—whom he doesn’t name, of course— would make every player—regardless of age or name—do somersaults in the middle of the field if they didn’t perform the drill the way he wanted.

Specifically, he mentioned that a… goalkeeper was forced, in the middle of the drill, to do 10 somersaults, with the entire team watching him. As a result, that goalkeeper is currently the only one in the Premier League who hasn’t conceded a goal.

Here is Daniel Podence’s message in full:

“There’s a coach out there who makes his players do forward somersaults whenever they miss the goal during a finishing drill or make a decision or move he doesn’t like.

It doesn’t matter if the player is 18 or 36. It doesn’t matter what his name is.

Once during practice, a goalkeeper passed the ball straight to a midfielder and lost possession… he did 10 forward somersaults, right in the middle of the drill.

That same goalkeeper is the only goalkeeper in the Premier League who hasn’t conceded a goal yet after three games.”
