Olympiacos did what it had to do in the season opener of the Stoiximan GBL and came away with a win at the “Ivanofio” against a competitive Heraklis, 78-68, despite being without Montero, Joseph, and Jones.
Now the Piraeus team is off to a strong start in the Championship and has “erased” the -2 deficit imposed on them from last season along with Panathinaikos, while the “Old Guard” will fight for the best possible standing and to secure their place in the league early on.
For Giorgos Bartzokas’s team, Miller-McIntyre stood out with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, Vezhenkov with 14 points and 3 rebounds, Dorsey with 11 points and 2 rebounds, Milutinov with 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Enzai with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Also, young Nikos Plotas, in his debut, had 7 points, 2 assists, and 1 rebound in 10 minutes of play, delivering a very solid overall performance at the “1” position.
For Heraklis, Lekiu led the way with 15 points and 3 rebounds, Melvin with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Diarra with 13 points and 2 assists.
Olympiacos’ next game is on October 9 against Efes at Sunel Arena in the EuroLeague, while the Thessaloniki team will play an away game in the FIBA Europe Cup against MZT Skopje (October 6).
