A group of four former Bayern Munich soccer players, including German World Cup champions Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels, are part of an investment group that has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Estrela Amadora, as announced by the Portuguese club.
“Estrela da Amadora announces that the acquisition of a 90% majority stake in the SAD’s share capital has been completed by an international consortium led by ADvantage and LEAD, with the support of the KI Group,” the club stated in an announcement on Tuesday (August 25).
“The new shareholder structure brings together investors with experience in sports, investing, and technology, as well as a group of strategic investors connected to international soccer, including Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Jan Sommer, and Lucas Hernández.”
The Portuguese newspaper “A Bola” reported that the group paid €40,000,000 for the stake in the first-division team.
Estrela was founded in 2020, nine years after its predecessor of the same name was dissolved due to financial problems. Last season, it finished in 15th place in the Primeira Liga.
While Hummels retired from active play last year, the 36-year-old Müller plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer. Hernández plays for Paris Saint-Germain, while Swiss goalkeeper Sommer plays for Club Brugge in Belgium.
Miller and Hummels were members of the German national team that won the World Cup in 2014, while defender Hernández helped France win the title four years later in Russia.
