Monterrey is determined to sign Orbelín Pineda. According to reports in Mexico, Matías Almeida’s team has gone so far as to offer AEK 7 million euros for the 30-year-old midfielder, to whom they are offering a multi-year contract with a very high salary.
It should be noted that Pineda has a contract through the summer of 2027, with a release clause of 8 million euros (to be paid in a lump sum, not in installments).
Reputable journalist César Luis Merlo reports that the odds are evenly split between a contract renewal with AEK and a transfer. “I asked today how things stand. They tell me it’s 50-50. There’s a 50% chance that Orbelin will agree to renew with AEK, where he has one more year left on his contract, and a 50% chance that Monterrey will buy him to bring him to Mexico under the guidance of Matías Almeida,” he noted.
