The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina will not only determine the new world champion, but it will also make history.
For the first time since the tournament’s inception, the European champion and the South American champion will face off in the World Cup final, in a matchup that many are already calling the ideal conclusion to the tournament.
At the same time, this is only the second World Cup final in history between two Spanish-speaking countries, following the historic 1930 final, when Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in Montevideo.
As if all that weren’t enough, the two finalists are also at the top of the FIFA world rankings, with Argentina holding onto the No. 1 spot and Spain following in No. 2. Thus, the final pits against each other not only the two most successful teams in the tournament, but also the two top national teams on the planet according to FIFA.
For the FIRST TIME in the ENTIRE history of the World Cup, the champions of Europe and South America will face off in the final.
