Apollon’s first friendly match on Dutch soil ended in victory, with the Limassol team defeating Roda Raalte 1-0.
Hernán Lozada had the opportunity to give playing time to several players and draw useful conclusions ahead of the rest of the season.
As for the match itself, the “blue-and-whites” controlled possession throughout and created a host of chances, but their lack of finishing kept them from scoring. Malekkidis broke the deadlock in the 90th minute with an outstanding individual effort and a powerful shot.
On the other hand, the opponent spent most of the match on the defensive and managed to make its presence felt only once, in the 23rd minute, when a shot hit the crossbar.
Now, Apollon is turning its attention to the next “test” against Utrecht on Tuesday (April 7, 5:00 p.m.), which is expected to be more challenging.
Starting lineup: Leuvenberg, Gaspar, Kvidta, Konomis, Baloyannis, Zenonos, Vaismbek, Brown, Andreou, Panos Charalambous, and Brandon Thomas.
Second-half lineup: Koun, Argyridis, Robertos, Eskritse, Assunsao, Ljubic, Zenonos, Siakis, Marneros, Polyviou, and Malekkidis.
